The Power of Re-Purposing

OK folks...as I said before, this summer I am going to create a place for my children to be creative and playful while learning all at the same time. I have successfully started by cleaning up the bonus room in general and deciding to finally get rid of the furniture in there. This furniture is the first set we purchased and picked out fabric for. We had it in our old house and I love it. However, the kids have pretty much destroyed it so I can't be too awful sad about getting rid of it all.

Since we haven't saved any money to create this place we have to be smart and resourceful. So one thing that room needed was some window treatments. That can cost a lot of money, even when you purchase them at Target. So what should I do? Well, in deciding to get rid of this furniture the Lord gave me a vision to use the fabric from my sofa for valances...WHAT? Yes...that's right...I took my sofa apart staple by staple and used some scrap wood in the garage to mount them on with more staples. Did it work...YES and I wish I had a camera to post the pics so you could see how well they turned out. The great thing about using that fabric was that it was already finished with lining and everthing...so it does look fairly professional. I am happy with how they turned out and it makes that room look great already. Plus I can keep my fabric in there that I love. Next, I can't wait to paint...that will have to wait though as we will need to save some cash, and also decide which of the four colors I want to use. Today I fill in the bad spots on the walls to prepare for that.

So to some it all up...if you are going to get rid of furniture but really love the fabric...why not re purpose it by making valances for your windows. It is fun and very inexpensive...and most of all resourceful. I can't come up with these things...The Lord did it!!! He is so great ALL OF THE TIME!!!
