Mike's Request for Prayers, Encouragement & Support

FROM MIKE:

Dear Family & Friends,

It gives me great pleasure to share with you something that God has laid on my heart over the past several months. A little more than a year ago, without my realizing, God began preparing me to go overseas to help share the wonderful message of salvation. There have been numerous times during this last year, in listening to sermons, in prayer time, and in conversation with other Christians, when God has spoken to me through scripture. In Acts 1:7-8 Jesus said, “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive the power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

I have answered God’s call with an open and eager heart. I will be apart of a team of six individuals from our congregation. We will travel to Mozambique, South Africa on Wednesday, November 21st and return December 1st. Our scheduled mission will put us in Mozambique during a nation wide "church convention". This "church convention" is led by a man the locals refer to as "The Father".

My prayer is that these people will be touched by the Holy Spirit prior to our arrival and with the help of the one pastor ministering in this region, Mr. Trevor Eayrs, we will be able to reach them with the gift of salvation. It will truly be amazing to see God at work in the hearts of the many we will meet.

Throughout this whole endeavor, I have prayed that God would provide the way if I was to go and so far my prayers have been answered. I was allowed the time off from of my job, and the doors continue to be opened by the Holy Spirit as I prepare to go. The cost of this trip is roughly $3,000.00, which includes my plane ticket, visa, and other in country expenses. Additional costs to be incurred include my passport, vaccinations, and the materials and supplies needed for the trip. Most graciously, God has provided for all of my initial costs and I know in my heart that He will be faithful in providing for the remaining expenditures.

What does this have to do with you? Well, I'm glad you asked! One of the most important aspects of a mission trip is knowing that the people at home are diligently praying for you. I would ask for your prayers for myself, that I may be prepared spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally for this challenge and protected while carrying the word of God on this mission. Remember our team during this time of preparation and while we are on the mission field witnessing to the people group of Mozambique and all who we will make contact. Pray that we may be responsive and productive as we minister and learn of ways our church can serve this area of the world spiritually and physically in the future. Please continue to remember my family in your prayers as I will be away for many days and especially during the Thanksgiving holiday. Most of all pray that the name of Jesus will be glorified in all we do.

In asking for your faithful prayers, additionally, if the Lord lays it on your heart to assist with the burden of cost and you feel led to make a financial contribution, you may do so through Wakefield Baptist Church as a tax-deductible donation. In a few days most of you will receive a letter in the mail similar to this post. Enclosed in that mailing will be a "Partnership Card" with a self addressed stamped envelope for you to return with your choice support. All of your support, whether prayers, a financial contribution, or simply words of encouragement, are all greatly needed and sincerely appreciated.

I thank you in advance for your loving prayers and support. It means so much to me and my family to know that you are remembering us as I embark on this spiritual journey that God has laid before me. Lisa will post daily on this site, while I am there and I will send you a follow-up letter upon my return home to show you how, through your support, you helped to spread God’s word and carry His salvation to the people of Mozambique, South Africa.

In Christ,

Mike B. Harris
